Trava-travnjaci-hamburger

Natura Histrica, a public institution for the management of protected areas organizes a one-day workshop for young people titled ‘Grass - grasslands – hamburger’ based on the current knowledge and experience in the field of nature protection, supplemented by the results of the activities of the LIKE - Living on the Karst Edge project. The workshop is designed for high school students.

The theoretical part of the workshop is carried out at the premises of the Science and education centre Speleo House, which provides all necessary infrastructure for the groups of 20 participants, while the practical field work is conducted on nearby grasslands and a medicinal plants trail.

Through the presentations (theoretical part) and the field work in nearby grasslands, the workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn about the overall diversity of the karst edge (biodiversity, geo-diversity, landscape diversity) and the challenges that the nature protection sector faces on a daily basis.

Workshop objective

The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness of the importance of nature conservation through the example of karst grasslands that we lose every day through the advancement of the natural succession process. Looking at the economic services of the ecosystem, the participants are presented in more detail the very concept and close connection of human activities and nature on the karst edge. Emphasis is placed on traditional agricultural production, as an ecosystem service that is responsible for the appearance of the karst edge as we know it today. The preservation of human activities on the karst environment is the only way to preserve the grassland of the karst edge and the species that thrive in such a habitat.
