The research of the presence and distribution of Erannis ankeraria in the County of Istria
Members of the Croatian Herpetologycal Society - Hyla in collaboration with colleague from the EGEA (European geological associations - for students and young geologists) did the first field trip as part of the project "The research of the presence and distribution of Erannis ankeraria in the County of Istria".
Erannis ankeraria is one of the most endangered species of moths of the family Geometridae in Europe. The species is listed in Appendix II and IV of the Habitats Directive of the European Union and protected by law in the Republic of Croatia in the category of strictly protected indigenous species. For this type so far there are only two old historical findings from the Croatian, Pula and Kastel Stari. The goal of this project is confirmation of this rare and local species in Croatia.
The field site visit lasted from March 12th to 14th 2016 , and the researchers visited the area of northern and central Istria. The first field trip did not result in the discovery of this type, however, there were over 30 species of moths in the study area.
Fauna moths in the winter is much poorer than the spring and summer fauna and due to that this figure is quite high.
During their stay, the researchers were located in the Science and Education Center "Speleo house" - in Vodice, for which they warmly thank the Public Institution Natura Histrica, Istria County and municipality Lanišće.
