THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE SPELEO HOUSE
On Tuesday 15 September 2015 the Science and Education Centre Speleo House located in Vodice was officially opened.
Among numerous guests, the event was attended by the President of the Region of Istria M.Sc. Valter Flego, the Mayor of the Lanišće Municipality Neven Mikac and the Mayor of Buzet Siniša Žulić.
The ceremony began with the sounds of the Croatian, Istrian and European anthem, followed by a welcoming speech given by the ŽIVO! project manager Ms. Ljiljana Dravec.
The ceremony continued with a tour of the house led by the project coordinator Bruno Kostelić starting from the presentation area, i.e. karst museum. Visitors had the opportunity to see the exhibition of cave formations and caving equipment, as well as modern laboratory and technical equipment, several bedrooms allowing a longer stay of larger groups of people in the beautiful landscape of the Ćićarija highland. The guests were introduced to the vast offer of the Speleo House amenities and services and got acquainted with the terms and conditions for staying in the facility for scientific purposes, expert meetings, eco-tourism or educational intent.
The scientific results achieved through the ŽIVO! project, namely the documentary, the monograph and the expert study were presented in the conference room of the Speleo House by Ph.D. Nadja Zupan Hajna from the Karst Research Institut, Alenka Koželj from the National laboratory for health, environment and food and Ph.D. Josip Rubinić from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Rijeka.
Project partner Public institution Natura Histrica organized a walk along the hiking trail “Paths of medicinal plants”. The celebration continued after the walk with refreshments served in the backyard of the Speleo House.
