Expert meeting on the activities and results of the EU project ŽIVO! (14 May – 15 May 2015)
On the first day of the meeting, along with lectures in Postojna, about 40 participants from Croatia, Slovenia and Canada, the representatives of the project partners of the ŽIVO! project and caving clubs, professional and scientific institutions dealing with the theme of karst, were taken on a field trip to the Matarsko podolje, cave Dimnice and Rižana waterworks.
The second day of the meeting organized by the Istria County and the Lanišće Municipality at the Science and education center Speleo House, included the presentation of the results of scientific research conducted as part of this international project, and topics such as topography, climate and geological features of the northern Istria, water resources, quality of the karst waters and biospeleology of the northern Istria. In the afternoon the participants went on a field trip that began in the village of Rašpor hosting the deepest cave in the Istria County. The group then continued to Pazin and visited Zarečki krov. The last stop on the field trip was the Cave of Pazin, that is, the abyss of the Pazinčica, as the most picturesque example of natural forces at work on the karst Istrian terrain.
